Pyramid Rome takes its name from the distinctive ‘Piramide’
nearby – the tomb of the ancient Roman noble Cestius.
The pyramid dates back to around 12 BC and lies on the
very edge of the ancient city boundary. Still standing
today just metres from ‘Piramide’ is the
ancient Door of St Paul. St Paul’s Cathedral,
one of the four patriarchal churches of Rome (along
with St Peter’s, St John Lateran and St Mary Major)
is one stop away on the metro.
One stop in the direction of the city centre brings
you to Circus Maximus – the stage of the legend
of Ben Hur and today a venue for huge outdoor concerts
and festivals. One stop further is the awesome Colosseum
and Roman Forum – the down town area of Julius
Caesar’s Rome.
The Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza del Popolo,
Piazza della Repubblica, St Peter’s and the Vatican
and St John’s and St Mary Major are all accessible
via the nearby metro system. The heart of the historical
centre is accessible by several bus routes. The beach
is a 40 minute train ride from Piramide as is Fiumicino
Airport, and the rest of Lazio and indeed Italy is accessible
via Termini Station 4 stops away. Click here to go see the map in full screen
For nightlife, Rome’s answer to Soho is just
moments away. Testaccio Village is a small area devoted
entirely to pubs and nightclubs. On the other side of
the river, around 20 minutes on foot, is the trendy
district of Trastevere – the quarter of the ancient
Roman working classes and today home to a buzzing melee
of charming restaurants, bars and boutiques.
